BANANA POOVAN

Bananas are generally big, but poovan banana is a tiny and dwarf sized banana. Poovan is also known as 'Ney Poovan', 'Safet Velchi', and 'Chini Champa'. It is slightly acidic, firm and has typical sour-sweet aroma. They taste very much like regular bananas but are sweeter. Its taste, nutritive and medicinal value makes it a favourite banana variety. It is available throughout the year but it is grown well during February to April. Most banana varieties turn to attractive golden yellow on ripening. Poovan is no exception. This variety has an abundance of essential vitamins and minerals including potassium, calcium, manganese, magnesium, iron, folate, niacin, riboflavin, and B6. These all contribute to the proper functioning of the body and keeping you healthy. Poovan is rich in several antioxidants, which helps lower the risk of many diseases! It is used for preparing various juices, and squashes.
